Our Club

The Thames Sailing Club was formed in 1943 and is well established as a family friendly club, catering for all ages and skill levels.

Located at Tararu Bay on the Thames Coast, our clubrooms are just a few minutes from central Thames and within easy travelling distance to many popular destinations. Handy for locals and visitors alike, the club provides easy access for centreboard yacht sailing through a wide range of weather conditions in a large, well-protected bay.

The Thames Sailing Club programme consists of Centreboard and Keeler sailing (including racing and non-competitive sailing and cruising) as well as Sail training sessions, Regattas and club social events.

Our club facilities include large, purpose-built clubrooms with an observation deck, lounge, race tower, changing rooms, kitchen and easy access for launching of centreboard boats and small craft off the beach or boat ramp.

The Thames Sailing Club Marina is located at Jellicoe Crescent, Thames, adjacent to the Shortland Wharf.  Recently upgraded, this small tidal Marina provides a good, safe haven for boats.

The Thames Sailing Club Hardstand is located at the Shortland Wharf. This is a working hardstand, for short-term occupancy which also offers haulout facilities and cradle hire.

As a Yachting New Zealand, affiliated club, we are proud to extend YNZ membership benefits and access to many sailing and training opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE OUR CLUBROOMS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR HIRE.
